There’s no better Winter-Opening than Swatch Snow Mobile 2011. Motor sport heroes, ski legends, stars and glamour – Saalbach Hinterglemm was definatly the place to be this weekend!
When Kimi Räikkönen and Nik Heidfeld enjoy a Party together and Aura Dione is wearing her warmest clothes of her hudge wardrobe it’s time for this year’s most spectacular Ski-Doo Race. The Swatch Snow Mobile winter opening weekend in Saalbach Hinterglemm was once more a get-together for world champions, ski legends and motor sports heroes, plus leading figures from industry, culture and society. Ebner Event Logistics Racing Team’s victory at the Grand Prix of Saalbach Hinterglemm on Saturday evening was watched by thousands of spectators around the range.

After 49 laps and five spectacular rider changes the team “Ebner Event Logistics” won the Swatch Snow Mobile Race. The team around Team-Captain Manfred Ebner displaced the “Uniqa Fresacher Racing Team”, the Winners of 2010 and 2008’s Swatch Snow Mobile Edition. They reached the second Place this year, “Team 3 powered by Sony Ericsson” won the third place.

Snow covered houses, trees and Christmas lights framing hundreds of horse powers – the picturesque scenery of the village was in contrast to the snow mobile racing action along the 850 meters racing terrain spiced up with berms, jumps and other obstacles. Training, qualification and first heats had to be successfully completed before the 14 teams for the final race could be announced on Saturday evening.

Snow slush on the track and the narrow turns were the main challenges for the 24 teams with their six members each. The committed riders provided the enthusiastic audience with an awesome race including numerous (but harmless) crashes and heroic action. After the “Battle of Champions” – 14 teams, each made up of two professional riders and one celebrity – the Swatch Snow Mobile race was the sportive highlight of a winter opening weekend that drew 20,000 spectators from far and close.

Once more the Grand Prix atmosphere combined with snow attracted a host of celebrities from sport, industry and society, including Germany’s TV Comedian Oliver Pocher, Lucy “No Angels” Diakowska, the now and then Formula One pilots Kimi Räikkönen, Christian Klien, Nick Heidfeld, Sakon Yamamoto, Niko Hülkenberg, Patrick Friesacher, Keke Rosberg. Also the Motorsport-Drivers Timo Scheider, Heinz Kinigadner, Manfred Stohl, Kris Rosenberger and Mat Rebaud joined Swatch Snow Mobile 2011.

It all started on Friday with the “Almdudler Night Rider” official welcome party at the luxury Hotel Alpine Palace, styled in a rustic charme. Dress code leather trousers and dirndl made a unique atmosphere.  Friday night the party crowd was rocked by the “Swatch Mountain Bash” presented by Hitradio Ö3, including a gig of German Rapper Sido.

After the final race on Saturday, the Danish singer Aura Dione made a perfect ending of this special winter opening and exhausting sport event.
